24. January 2025 January in Musica Viva
January has been full of great events once again! We attended together with our students an amazing concert at the Tonhalle, where we enjoyed Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 27 and Beethoven’s 6th Symphony. Just a few days earlier, we had another “Speak Music” class – the final lesson of the first part, which was dedicated to polyphonic music. After exploring Bach and Brahms, this time we discussed and listened to Shostakovich. It was impressive to see how well Shostakovich’s music captured the listeners’ attention.
We are now looking forward to the In-house Salon this coming Saturday and our final winter concert, taking place a week later on Sunday, February 2, in the beautiful “Löwen-Saal” in Hausen am Albis!

25. December 2024 Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

What a year behind us! Looking forward to 2025! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you!❤️

17. December 2024 SPEAK MUSIC
“SPEAK MUSIC” – our exciting new theory course for understanding music took place for the second time! We continued exploring Bach, analyzing his Prelude and Fugue in B-flat major. From there, we moved to Brahms, listening to the first movement of his Second Violin Sonata and discovering how its beautiful themes hold the structure together.
It was an impressively intense session, and our wonderful students showed incredible engagement and dedication. Time flew by so quickly that we had to postpone our planned discussion on how and why Bach and Brahms are connected. Next time, Dmitri Shostakovich will join the company as well!
A big thank you to our amazing teacher, Ekaterina Bonyushkina!

27. November 2024 Charity concert “Children for children”

Join us tomorrow for the charity concert “Children for children” organized by the choir “Weisse Nächte”.

23. November 2024 In-house Salon

Another In-house Salon took place last Saturday. As always, it was a great joy to see and hear everyone. Particularly remarkable was how attentively everyone listened to the performers. Two hours without a break passed in what felt like a single breath—amazing! Looking forward to next week, which brings two more events: our joint visit to the Tonhalle on Monday and participation in a charity concert on Thursday.

13. November 2024 SPEAK MUSIC

"SPEAK MUSIC" – Our new theory class took place for the first time last Saturday, dedicated to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. Participants listened to several of Bach’s pieces, learned to follow the music in the scores, and analyzed the structure of his compositions. Leading the class was our wonderful teacher and incredible pianist, Ekaterina Bonyushkina.

To close the lesson, we listened to a movement from Brahms’ Second Symphony. Why Brahms, when the lesson was dedicated to Bach? More on that will be revealed in our next lesson in December! In the meantime, we’ll work on applying what we’ve learned to the pieces our students are practicing individually.

And coming up soon, we’re excited for our next event: this Saturday is our In-house Salon – a Jam Session, Musica Viva style. We can’t wait!

22. October 2024 Master classes
Have you ever wondered who was the first to reveal musical secrets to the general public?
Today, master classes seem to be a common thing. But imagine that someone was the first to publicly teach other musicians in front of an audience. This bold step became a new milestone in music education, and for the participants it was an incredibly emotional experience. Who was this pioneer?
Now imagine a movie without music. Sounds strange, right? Music sets the rhythm, emphasizes emotions and enhances impressions. But long before the advent of cinema, attempts were made to combine music with visual arts (we are not talking about opera here)
And this same person we are talking about was the first to combine music with painting and sculpture. He wrote musical works inspired by Rodin's sculpture "The Thinker" and Raphael's painting "The Marriage of the Virgin". It was he who came up with the idea of master classes and brought many innovative ideas to music.
Who was it? Franz Liszt. Today, on his birthday, we remember with gratitude his music and ideas that continue to inspire us.
5. October 2024 Congratulations to our incredible piano students!
Last Saturday, our piano group class was dedicated to mastering scales—and what a success it was! Each student put in amazing effort and achieved remarkable milestones. From becoming Scale Explorers to Scale Experts, and achieving the titles of Fingering and Beat Masters, we saw such growth and determination from everyone. 🙌
We also had some friendly competitions, with several Scale Winners emerging, and the top prize—a prestigious Scale Professor card—going to one student who truly excelled! 🏆 We held sight-reading and note-reading competitions as well, for older and younger students accordingly. 🎶
We hardly noticed how these two super intense hours flew by!
Well done to all who participated! Your hard work and achievements have taken you even further, and we’re excited to see where your talent will take you next! 🎵💪
Now we wish everyone a well-deserved autumn holiday and look forward to seeing you again soon!
25. September 2024 Piano group class
Often children can explain what they have learned to each other better than the teacher, and the best place for such interaction is a group class. Group work helps the student look at himself from the outside, spy on other students' techniques and rethink his approach.
On September 28, our school will hold another group class on piano. It will be dedicated to scales.
Why learn scales? Where can you find interest? What are the difficulties? How to overcome them? Where can you find pleasure? These and other, more technical questions will be covered at the next piano group class
2. September 2024 Welcome to the new school year!
We hope that the holidays allowed everyone to recharge and return ready to continue to live music.
We are happy that last year was full of events, and we would like to take a moment to remember some of them. We held several in-house salons, group classes, and masterclasses where our students and teachers presented and observed each other's musical approaches and learning ways. Our winter concert warmed us on a cold February evening, and our summer concert in July served as a conclusion to the school year. Additionally, we participated in a benefit concert in support of UNICEF, dedicated to children’s welfare.
One of the most impressive activities last year was our music & nature camp, held for the fifth time in the beautiful Seleger Moor Park in Rifferswil (ZH). This event was a true immersion in music and nature.
We look forward to meeting all our students again, sharing joy of living music together.
